Crappy shippers and how time flies with real work

I miss Boston. I miss having friends in the same city as me...

I just got my TV working last night, and I watched the 2005 NFL season opener. It's definitely getting kind of weird not having anyone around during the week. I got used to roommates or at least dormmates. Now I don't even know my neighbors.

Anyway, so about this TV. UPS took two weeks to even inspect it so I could take it out of the box. ...And my camera batteries need charging, so I'll just say that I'm mildly surprised it still works. I half expect an explosion any second. UPS realy has no case not to pay me for it. If they battle with me, I'll post some pics. Either way, I'm gonna start using DHL. I've heard too many horror stories involving UPS. They also screwed up a computer my mother sent to CA, and when I went out there to interview, I had to play inspector for her. They battled her for months, before she brought a lawsuit. So basically, use DHL.

And USPS lost all my college textbooks, my HS and college yearbooks, and my signed copy of the Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide, which I was sooo happy Kav remembered to bring for me that night Douglas Adams was at MIT. And I also lost another $600 or so worth of stuff that I'm not going to idenitfy (though some already know), in the same box. Otherwise, it was a pretty good move. I'm finally mostly unpacked though, and starting to settle into a routine.

Today I got my first real assignment at work. It's funny how when you're working, the day goes by so much faster than when you're guiltily surfing the web. And my computer faces out of my workspace (I'll hold off on calling it a cubicle for now - I do have a little pride), so it's not like I can hide the fact that I'm goofing off. And my boss's open office door overlooks my row. I did have to ask for the work, though, so I'm sure he'd have understood.

He's also the coolest boss ever. I asked for a day off to come to Boston in October (two half days off, actually), and he said to not even bother logging the half days off, so I didn't have to use my personal time. And I've only been there a week and a half! He is pretty much the reason I ended up at Cirrus, though.

Tomorrow, I get my first taste of real life in Austin. I met two guys in a band called Dynah last weekend, and I'm going to see them play. Apparently with the plethora of live music in Austin (It's what it's known best for), and a central downtown area, this happens fairly often. Maybe Saturday I'll go tailgate, even though UT is in Ohio. Should be a really good game. On second thought, maybe I'll wait till they're back in town and try to go to the game, too.
