Um, it's not 2005 any more.

Ok, so between this post and the last, there have been some rather significant changes. The Longhorns won the football championship, the Dems took back Congress, and the Mets suffered the worst regular season collapse of any sport ever. I've quit two jobs, moved back to Boston, left Boston, and I'm now traveling until I go to law school in the fall, most likely at Michigan.

So now I'm going to actually put this blog to use for what, by its name, I'm guessing I meant it for. I'm gonna be doing a bit of travel blogging, partially to keep a record of cool stuff I see around the world, and interesting experiences, but mostly to try and make my friends jealous. So, as today is the first of my trip, let's begin. In the immortal words of Hiro Nakamura, "Herro New York!"

Yesterday, I closed the gate on a storage unit half the size of a small meat locker that contained just about all my worldly possessions. (I left a suit, the West Wing DVDs and about two shots of coconut vodka with Laura.) Words cannot express how odd a feeling that was, between wondering what would happen if a meteor hit the storage facility, and feeling suddenly very free, with no rent to pay, and nothing really tying me to any one place. Let's just say that I spent a few hours on the first day of my vacation updating an Excel spreadsheet detailing my life for the next few months. I tend to have to know where I'm going next, and what I'm doing there. So this sudden severing of tethers, creating a degree of spontaneity and lack of schedule, was odd, to say the least.

I got on the bus to NY very early this morning so that I could sit in Shea Stadium one last time before the wrecking balls take my seat. Today's game was kinda of like when, in all those crappy movies and sappy TV shows, someone acts like an asshole right before leaving so that his friends won't miss him. Perez was pulled after 4 outs. The top 2nd included six walks, an error, a botched rundown, one reliever and 7 runs. I don't remember a worse game, not to mention the sub-50 temperature. It was 13-0 in the sixth when we left. I'll miss Shea after it's gone, but this shields the pain. That, and Citi Field looks gorgeous.

Ok, well I'm gonna get a good night's sleep for what seems like the first time in years. More travel blogging to come.
